A vacancy has arisen at the nursery for the post of Retail Worker (Off-site Sales Co-ordinator and Shop).

Monday, Tuesday, Thursday @ 7hrs a day
Occasional Saturdays when providing cover for training, holidays or sickness

JOB SUMMARY
Growing with Grace is committed to promoting an increase in retail sales of organic and fairtrade produce through its Veg Bag and Customer Choice delivery programmes, and through its on-site Shop. This is part of GwG's overall commitment to promoting sustainable communities. The range of produce available in these three main areas prioritises sales of vegetables and fruit grown in on-site glasshouses, as well as selling a wider range of organic and fairtrade vegetables, fruit and other pre-packed goods, which will include frozen foods, wines and beers.
You will be a member of the GwG staff team, having specific responsibility with the Shop Co-ordinator for making a profit from retail sales. Your specific areas of responsibility will include:
  1. Co-ordinating retail sales via (a) Veg Bag Planning, Packing & Deliveries, (b) Customer Choice Deliveries,
  2. Co-ordinating marketing actions relating to Veg Bag and Customer Choice
  3. Supporting on-site shop retail sales

Currently, off-site sales deliveries are lower than expected. The Management Group have set a new target for additional deliveries each week by 1st January 2013. You will work closely with the On-site Shop Co-ordinator to support a more ambitious retail offer from the on-site Shop, with the aim of increasing turnover by 100% by 1st January 2013.
YOUR KEY TASKS
  1. Working cooperatively with the On-site Shop Co-ordinator to promote profitable sales of organic and fairly traded produce through off-site deliveries and on-site shop sales. You will prioritise sales of GwG organic produce grown on-site in our own glasshouses, and a wider range of bought-in foods, including vegetables & fruit, pre-packed organic and fairly traded goods, frozen foods, wines and beers
  2. Co-ordinating retail sales via a Veg Bag delivery programme (currently with 30 customers), being responsible for customer service, and arranging the planning, ordering, packing, and co-ordinating delivery of Veg Bags with delivery staff
  3. Co-ordinating retail sales via a Customer Choice delivery programme, being responsible, with the Shop Co-ordinator, for customer service,and planning the ordering and delivery of Customer Choice orders
  4. Co-ordinating marketing actions relating to Veg Bag and Customer Choice delivery programmes, including overseeing input to website re Key tasks 1, 2 & 3
  5. Working in the on-site shop in support of retail sales - with occasional Saturday working (providing cover for sickness & holidays)
  6. Being a member of the Growing with Grace staff team
  7. Such other duties as may be required in line with the status of the post

Growing With Grace is a unique community-owned horticulture business with 3 main strands of business:

  • 2 acres of greenhouses supplying organic vegetables to local people
  • On site production and sale of compost from local greenwaste
  • Education around organic horticulture, and sustainability

We have been leaders in creating a sustainable future for Craven for 10 years, and we are now looking for the right people to get involved as committee members to take us into our next phase. This is a really exciting opportunity to get involved with a unique business with high ideals. For the time being this is a voluntary position.

As a Community Co-op we intend to build on our past successes and make our Nursery a real resource for local people. Already the glasshouses have provided an excellent base for other successful projects. These have included small-scale biodiesel production, a community composting scheme, an organic shop, training courses, community events and opportunities to experiment with different growing methods.

  • Setting the strategic direction of Growing with Grace
  • Ensuring the effective management of the GWG and its activities
  • Monitoring the activities of the organisation to ensure they are in keeping with the founding principles, objects and values


Suitable Attributes

  • Experience in business, marketing, finance, or education
  • Genuine enthusiasm and interest in sustainability issues
  • Half a day a week to offer
